Spring Gifted Identification Process

Dear Parent/Guardian(s),

On Monday, January 18th, the referral window for Spring Gifted Identification will open for students in grades K-5.  Gifted identification referrals will be accepted by Montrose’s Gifted Identification Coordinator, Jennifer Williams, from January 18 through January 29th. Please consider attending our upcoming virtual Parent/Guardian Referral Information Session (date TBD) when additional details will be shared and parent/guardian(s) will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the gifted identification process.  A reminder about this meeting and a Microsoft Teams link will be shared on Friday, January 15th.  If you have additional questions, please contact Jennifer Williams at jewilliams@henrico.k12.va.us.

Return-to-School Reminders for January 4-8, 2021

Return-to-school reminders for Jan. 4-8, 2021:

  • Our “limited in-person learning” will be on hold from Jan. 4-8 to create a “buffer week” between holiday gatherings and in-person learning, reducing the chance of possible coronavirus exposure. Instruction will be virtual for all students the entire week of Jan. 4-8.
  • In-person technical support hours will be reduced for the week of Jan. 4. In-person technical support will be available from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at HCPS middle and high schools. If your child is in elementary school, please seek needed in-person technical support at the high school your child is zoned to attend. Non-critical issues can be addressed Jan. 4-8 by emailing the “Help Desk” at helpdesk@henrico.k12.va.us
  • Curbside meal distribution at 12 schools will be consolidated with nearby sites, effective Monday, Jan. 4. (If you usually use one of the 12 sites, don’t worry: most of the alternate sites are within a mile or two of the original sites.) As we first announced yesterday, the last day for curbside service at the 12 sites will be today (Thursday, Dec. 17.) Bus stop deliveries on Mondays and Wednesdays are not impacted by this change.
  • Update your contact information: If you are planning for your student to return to our school buildings “in-person” in 2021, please take a few minutes to review your student’s contact information via the web-based version of the HCPS PowerSchool Parent Portal (not available on the PowerSchool app.) In particular, it’s important to ensure that emergency contact information is up-to-date as these individuals will be the only people authorized to pick up your child from school. For step-by-step instructions on how to update your information, use this link: How to Update Your Contact Information.
  • The HCPS Health Committee will meet on Monday, Jan. 4, to review the latest data related to COVID-19 in our area. If there need to be any changes to our timeline for expanding in-person learning (currently planned to begin on Jan. 11 for grades preK through 2), we will communicate with you as soon as possible.

As we look forward to 2021, we wish your family a Winter Break filled with relaxation, celebration and good health!
